Meet Steve… a hard-working attorney at a large firm in Manhattan. Steve joined the firm as an associate right out of law school and is working his way to becoming a partner. As part of his job Steve has to attend many social functions and dinners weekly with many out-of-state clients. As Steve is single, 35 and lives by himself in the city, these dinners usually turn into late nights meet-ups with friends with excessive alcohol consumption.
After, many months Steve found himself arriving frequently late to the office. Steve noticed that after these binge drinking nights, which were now consisting of about 5 per week, his anxiety would increase immensely, Steve went to his primary care doctor and got himself on Xanax to “help his anxiety and sleep issues.”
Steve also suffered from ADD as a child and had realized in college that the Ritalin he had taken was a great energy boost. So as to not loose his hard-earned opportunity for being named partner Steve began taking Xanax to sleep after long nights of alcohol consumption and Ritalin every morning to wake up. After two years of this regimen family and friends began to confront Steve on his substance abuse issues.
It was a month after a formal intervention by family and friends that Steve decided to get help. He went into detox and got off all brain altering chemicals. Steve began to work out again and take care of himself. With the help of a non-opioid based implant, long-term therapy and Zone coaching, Steve has been sober for 190 days and is up for partner in his firm in September. Steve reports “never feelings better.”
